Liming remediates soil acidity and improves crop yield and profitability - a meta-analysis

چکیده
Soil acidity reduces base cations required for plant growth and may result in phytotoxic concentrations of soluble aluminum. Liming acidic soils is generally promoted as an effective management practice to increase soil pH, cation concentrations, ameliorate toxicity caused by aluminum manganese. Through a global literature review using data published from field experiments on liming, the objective this paper understand effects liming crop yields, economic profitability. The results show that positively influenced yields implying various lime sources can pH productivity. effect sizes when was incorporated into were higher than surface application irrespective tillage practice. under no-tillage (NT) compared conventional (CT) showed yields. increased fertilized with unfertilized trials. Overall, meta-analysis shows decreases improves Attaining maximum gains agricultural conditions requires understanding appropriate specific types ensure overall producers sustainable improvement health.

Soil Acidity and Liming
Soil pH, soil acidity, and their effects on plants The pH scale, ranging from 0 to 14, is used to indicate acidity and alkalinity. pH is a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions (symbol = H) in the water contained in the soil. A pH of 7.0 is neutral, values below 7 are acidic, and those above 7 are alkaline (basic). The lower the pH, the more acid the soil. Each unit pH drop indicates te...

Based on these figures, it is no exaggeration to say that more than one-third of the Brazilian annual wealth is supported by a single natural resource: the soil. This justifies the impor‐ tance of studies on how to preserve and improve this valuable resource. According to [2], soils have natural limits to their ability to nourish plants and sustain crop productivity. The degradation of soil qua...

Soil acidity, which is characterized by mainly aluminum (Al) toxicity and often calcium (Ca) deficiency, is a serious constraint for crop production in many regions of the world. Soil acidity is traditionally corrected by applications of lime (CaCO3 or Ca(OH)2), which raise soil pH, precipitate Al and provide Ca. However, high rates of lime cannot be afforded because of its high cost relative t...
متن کاملSOIL pH AND LIMING
When crops do not grow well, one of the first question an agronomist is likely to ask is “What is the pH of the soil?” The reason for this question is that soil pH tells us more about a soils ability to produce crops that any other single measurement. A measurement of soil pH is like a doctor’s measurement of a patient’s temperature. It gives an indication something may or may not be wrong, but...

A large body of research has documented the effect of seed priming ongermination, emergence and crop yield. In such research, seed priming has beenfound to have a positive, negative or no effect. Meta-analysis can help tosummarize and interpret a collection of experiments. The aim of this study was toconduct a meta-analysis to synthesize published data from studies addressing theeffect of seed ...
